All kinds of unexpected things happen at concerts, from Springsteen and McCartney being kicked off the stage, to a lollipop landing in David Bowie’s eye. Here at Songkick we love all kinds of gigs, even if they don’t go according to plan…

Check out our list of infamous shows where fans may have gotten more than their money’s worth!

Guns N’ Roses – The O2 in Dublin, September 1, 2010

Axl Rose is infamous for keeping fans waiting. Even when the original members were all together Axl kept the fans waiting. Things, apparently, haven’t changed. After keeping an antsy crowd in the stands for an hour, when Guns did finally take the stage a few stray bottles ruined it for everyone. The band left the stage, and an hour later, returned to perform a kick ass show to a very devoted crowd.

Green Day – Woodstock ’94

Green Day have always put on unorthodox shows, but, Woodstock ’94 takes the cake–or mud pie–in stage show history. After three days of rain the show grounds were more like a swamp than ground. During Green Day’s set a fan pelted Billie Joe with a mud pie, and he rolled with it. Soon fans were on stage jumping and screaming, while the band played on.

Nickelback – Portugal 2004

One thing’s for sure, Nickelback hold themselves up high. But that didn’t stop an audience in Portugal from throwing rocks at them. At a metal festival in Portugal lead singer, Chad Kroeger, asked the crowd if there were any Nickelback fans in the audience, to which their reply was booing and rock throwing. Maybe they should have tried a less direct approach.

Britney Spears – House of Blues Orlando, May 19, 2007

Shortly after shaving her head and attacking the paparazzi, Britney rallied, going on tour at various House of Blues venues across the United States. Britney had the misfortune of an audio malfunction during her Orlando show. Her concert, which was half live performance, and half prerecord, took a turn when her CD skipped during Do Somethin’. The pop-star rallied and managed to dance her way out of the worst of it.

Daphne and Celeste – Reading Festival, 2000

The first thing most people think of in regards to the UK’s Reading Festival, is not pop stars. But Daphne and Celeste braved the odds and got onstage at the predominantly rock festival. The duo performed two songs while fans threw empty bottles at them. Their faces never faltered from ecstatic smiles, and their charm would have been infectious if the crowd hadn’t been standing in mud for hours.

What’s the strangest concert you’ve ever been to??
